AGED RESIDENT PASSED AWAY AT AN EARLY HOUR WEDNESDAY

Swan Ackerson passed away at the family home here about 6 o'clock Wednesday morning, May 16, 1923. Mr. Ackerson had been ailing for many weeks and had gradually grown weaker so that his passing was not entirely unlooked for. He had been a resident of this community for many years and was an old and respected settler of this county. He was past seventy-nine years old.

Obituary

Ackerson

Swen Ackerson was born Feb. 21, 1844, at West Wram, Skane, Sweden, and passed away at the family home in east Stratford on May 16, 1923, having arrived at the old age of 79 years, 8 months, 25 days.

He came to America during the year 1868 and located in Moline, Ills. He was there united in marriage to Miss Anna Felleson in 1869. In 1878 the family moved into Iowa locating on the farm east of Stratford which they still own and where they lived until they moved into Stratford a few years ago.

Eight children were born to them, all of whom are still living. These and the aged wife are those who are left to mourn the death of a kind and thoughtful husband and father. The children are: Mrs. Robert Egnell, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Albert Egnell, Boone; Miss Emma Ackerson, Stratford; Fred, Oscar and Walter Ackerson, all of Fort Lupton, Colo.; Emil Ackerson of Stratford and Clarence Ackerson of Fort Dodge, all of whom were present at the funeral.

Deceased also leaves to mourn him fifteen grandchildren and three great grand children and a large host of friends and neighbors.

Mr. Ackerson was not one of the older pioneer settlers of this section but he came here in the days when Iowa was still very young and he wrested from the good soil of this state material wealth and a wealth of experience as well that was the lost of the early day farmer. He was a quiet and unassuming man who spent most of his time about his home making the surroundings neat and home like and comfortable. His last illness was caused by an affectation of his heart and from this trouble he never recuperated but gradually grew weaker until the end came.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ackerson and daughter, Walter and Oscar Ackerson, all of Fort Lupton, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Studvin, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Burgh, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Batcheller, all of Paton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Egnell and Andrew Egnell, all of Boone; Carl and Gust Anderson of Farnhamville.

Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church Monday in charge of the pastor, S.P. Holmberg and the remains were interred in the South Marion cemetery.

Card of Thanks
To all the friends whose sympathy and services were so kindly and willingly tendered in our time of bereavement, we desire to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks.
Mrs. Swan Ackerson and children.

[in his wife's and his daughter's obituary the spelling for Egnell is Engnell so I listed both spellings here]
