February 17, 1952

Miss Emma Ackerson was born to Swan and Anna [Felleson] Ackerson on March 8, 1877, at Moline, Ill., and passed away in the Lutheran Home for the Aged at Madrid, Iowa, Sunday, February 17, 1952, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 17 days.

She was baptized in infancy into the Lutheran faith. She came with her parents to Stratford, Iowa, at the age of three years. She was confirmed in Stratford at the age of twelve years and became a member of the Lutheran church here. After her mother passed away in 1932, she went to Los Angeles, Calif., to make her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Engnell.

She entered the Lutheran Home for the Aged at Madrid, Iowa, October 1, 1947, and was a patient there until her death.

Left to mourn her departure are her sister, Mrs. Albert Engnell, of Boone, three brothers, Oscar Ackerson of North Holywood, Calif., Walter Ackerson of Fort Lupton, Colo., and Clarence Ackerson of Fort Dodge, besides many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Mrs. Robert Engnell, two brothers, Fred Ackerson and Emil Ackerson.

In her affliction and suffering she had a strong and abiding faith in her Lord and Saviour. She found much strength and comfort in hearing the Word of God and prayers.

Last rites were held here in the Stratford Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 20, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. F.W. Hanson. He used as his text Revelation 20:11-16, and the subject of his sermon was: "God's Promises to the Overcomer." Three duets for the funeral services were sung by Mrs. E.J. Johnson and Mrs. Lester Anderson. They were: "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me," "Asleep in Jesus," and "Shall We Meet?" Following the services, the remains were escorted to the South Marion cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were: Vernon Berglund, Clifford Carlstedt, Axel Olson, Paul Erickson, Emanuel Lindquist and Anton Sealine.
