Elsie Nelson, 92, a former Jewell resident, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999 at Bethany Manor in Story City, where she had resided for the past two years. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation is today and Tuesday morning at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell and until the time of service Tuesday afternoon at the church.

Elsie Luppes, the daughter of John and Engel (Welp) Luppes, was born March 6, 1906 in Kamrar. On Jan. 18, 1928, she married Leonard Lloyd Janes at the parsonage in Kamrar. They farmed south of Blairsburg and retired and moved to Jewell in 1943. Mr. Janes passed away on Nov. 19, 1947.

On April 21, 1957, she married Sterling E. Nelson in Emmetsburg. They farmed southwest of Jewell, retired in 1972 and moved to Jewell in 1975. Mr. Nelson passed away Dec. 19, 1988.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell and had served as church treasurer when the new church was built.

Survivors include: two step-daughters, Lorris Jean and Richard Barkema of Murray and Sheryl Ann Exley of Green Brea, Calif.; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husbands; a brother, john Luppes; three sisters, Harmka Schaa, Ollie Denekas and Hilke Denekas; two brothers in infancy; and four step children, Phyllis, Eugene, Franklin and Ernest Nelson.
