STATE CENTER — Elmer “Dean” Kunz Jr., 74, of State Center, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his loving family by his side.

Following “Dean’s” wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services for Dean will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Trosen officiating. There will be no public visitation held prior to services. Memorial contributions may be directed in Dean’s name to his family. Elmer Dean Kunz Jr. was born on April 10, 1945 in Graettinger, Iowa the son of Elmer and Irene (Waters) Kunz. He attended school through 9th grade and later when he was of age joined the Navy for four years.

On October 28, 1971, Dean was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janice (Jensen) Kunz in Webster City, Iowa. From this union they raised three beautiful girls: Deanna, Mindy and Renee. Dean was a hardworking man, dedicating many years at CONSTRUCT and after that was an over the road truck driver for nearly 30 years. He was a proud member of the American Legion. Dean had a passion for fishing, hunting, camping, boating, being in nature, building anything he could but most importantly was the time and memories he got to spend with his family.

Left to cherish Dean’s memory is his lovely wife, Janice; children: Deanna Kunz, Mindy (Vernon) Braddy and Renee Rollins; grandchildren: Adrianne (Tim) Mann, Breanna Kriegel and Cody and Levi Braddy; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Elias Mann; brothers, Allen Kunz and Leonard (Bobbi) Kunz; sisters: Kay Paulson, Karen (Joe) Credit and Bev (Lark) Asklund; and his four legged furry companion, “Rusty”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene; brothers: Roland Kunz, Larry Kunz, Darold Kunz, Harry Dean Kunz, Leo Kunz and Alvin Kunz; as well as his sisters: Charlene Worrick, Cindy Jessen, and Marilyn Kepler.
