Dean Hanus, Sr. 65, Webster City, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998 at the Iowa City Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Carter officiating and burial in Graceland Cemetery. American Legion Post #191 will conduct graveside military rites. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and prior to the services on Wednesday.

Dean Jule Hanus, son of August and Ethel Johnson Hanus, was born Feb. 2, 1933 at Woolstock. He attended school at Woolstock, Eagle Grove, Webster City and Clarion. During the Korean War he served with the U.S. Army-Engineers in the European Theater of Action. In 1957, he married Sharon Wicks in Minnesota. The couple resided in Eagle Grove, Webster City and Woolstock. He was a truck driver for several local businesses. He retired three years ago from trucking. On Dec. 27, 1996, he married Inez Phipps Fortune at Webster City.

He is survived by his wife, Inez; sons and daughters-in-law, Daryl and Ann Hanus of Council Bluffs, Dean Hanus Jr. of Webster City, Bridgett Hanus of Dallas, TX, step-children, DeAnn Sudderth of Huntsville, AL, John Fortune of Freeport, IL, Patricia and Bob Easter of Clare, Sue and Junior Wolff of Webster City, Al and Reba Fortune of Loxley, AL, Barb and Mike Trame of Huber, Oh, two grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild, brothers Gary of Riley, KS, Harold and Melvin of Webster City, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Hanus in 1996, his parents, sisters Dorothy Connor and Norma Capelo, brothers Rayner, Donald, Emil and Robert.
