Alice Gaynell Clark 91, of Ames passed away November 22, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 29, 2014 at 10:00am at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010), with burial to follow at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, November 28, 2014 at 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
Alice Gaynell Clark was born December 3, 1922 in Ellsworth, Iowa to Florence (Eddy) Gabrielson and Martin Christian Gabrielson. She grew up on a farm in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1940. She attended AIB and worked at the Ankeny Ordnance Plant during the war years.
In June of 1945 she married George F Clark of Ames, while George was in the Army Air Force. They lived at Sioux City AFB till his discharge in October. They moved back to Ames where George started farming east of Ames.
To this union was born 4 children, George Jr, Debbie, Paul and Jim. Gaynell enjoyed traveling and attending her children and grandchildren’s activates. She was a faithful attendee to the Gabrielson family reunions over the years. She worked as a volunteer at Bethesda Lutheran Church, where she was a member, and The Sons of Norway. Gaynell was a 70 year member of the Legion Auxiliary Ames Post #37 and The Moose.
Gaynell was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, her brothers Glenn, Don, John and sister Florence. She is survived by her daughter Debbie of Story City, sons George of Wilmington, N.C., Paul of Story City, Jim of Ames and three grandchildren, David, Brian and Ann.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Main Stream Living of Ames, or the Arc of Story County.
