Ernest J. Lindquist, 76, Gilmore City, died Monday, July 24, 2000 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit in Humboldt. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Gilmore City with Rev. Cliff Ellerback officiating. Burial will be in the Marble Valley Cemetery in Gilmore City. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home in Gilmore City.

Ernest J. Lindquist was born August 11, 1923 in rural Stanhope, the son of Fred and Zora Lindquist. He was raised and educated in Stanhope and graduated from the Stanhope Consolidated School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre. He married Iona Roberts at Gilmore City on Sept. 21, 1950. They lived in Webster City where he worked as an installer-repairman for six years, then transferred to Mason City and worked for PBX and Key Systems and Central Office Switching Equipment. The couple moved to Humboldt in 1963 where he worked as a service supervisor to oversee the conversion of the Humboldt Telephone office from manual to dial switching. After 25 years of service, he retired in 1975. The couple then lived on their farm east of Gilmore City the remainder of their lives.

Survivors are a brother, Frederick Lindquist of Webster City and a sister, Margarette Nelson of Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Iona on Dec. 25, 1995, brother Merlin, parents Fred and Zora Lindquist, and children Danny Lindquist and Terry Gravert.
