A memorial service for James Louis Clave, 55, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1000 Willson Ave., Webster City. Mr. Clave, the son of Hazel Clave of Webster City, died at his home near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on June 24, 2000. His funeral service was held on June 28, 2000 in Edmonton.

James Louis Clave was born in Fairmont, Minn., Dec. 7, 1944. He was brought up in Webster City and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. He was active in scouting and made his first trip to Canada with the Explorer Scouts. His father, James E. Clave, died in 1961.

He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and the University of Iowa where he received his B.A. in Political Science and his M.S.W. in Social Work. He worked as a counselor at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison until he moved to Edmonton. He worked there for 22 years in the Government of Alberta, first developing a new Treatment Center for the criminally insane and later for the Personnel Administration in the Diagnostic and Referral Department.

Survivors are his mother, Hazel Clave, Webster City, wife, Gretchen Clave, a daughter from his first marriage and her husband, Melissa and Andrew Brule of Vancouver, a grandson, Bennett Brule, sisters, Rosalie McNary of Littleton, Colo. and her children Lisa Stanel and Scott McNary, and Judith Layng of Washington, D.C. and her daughter, Kristin Szakos.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Ducks Unlimited or the charity of your choice.
