Frank Baldus, 83, of Jewell, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jewell. Friends may call Friday after 4 p.m. at the church where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Jewell Fire and Rescue Squad.

Frank Raymond Baldus was born May 11, 1915 in Story County to John and Rosa (Leininger) Baldus. He was a WW II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. On January 2, 1947 Frank married Christina Larson at the Good Shepherd Church in Jewell. They farmed in Story and Hamilton Counties until he retired in 1979 and moved to Jewell.

Frank is survived by his wife, Christina of Jewell; two sons, Francis Raymond Baldus of Shellsburg, Iowa and Andrew Baldus of Silver Spring, Maryland; three daughters, Elizabeth Homrighausen of Mechanicsville, Iowa; [and no others listed] 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Uthe of Williams, Rose Helland of Story City and Catherine Davis of Des Moines; and a brother, Earl Baldus of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Paul, in 1988, a grandson, five brothers and two sisters.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd Church and the American Legion.
