Samuel Marigny Lewis Jr. (Sam), 88, of Stratford, IA (formerly of Casselberry, FL), passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Stratford Specialty Care Center. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell, IA.

Samuel Marigny Lewis Jr. was born on September 12, 1930 to Samuel Marigny Sr. and Alta Gracie (Nunez) Lewis in New Orleans, Louisiana. After Sam graduated from high school in 1948, he enlisted in the United States Army until his retirement as a Command Sergeant Major in 1976. During his time in the Army, Sam received numerous awards and medals including a Bronze Star for Valor. After he retired from the Army, Sam moved his family to Florida to enjoyment retirement.

On April 5, 1952, Sam married Ingrid Regina Worbs (a WWII survivor from Berlin, Germany) at McNair Chapel in Berlin, Germany. Sam and Ingrid were the proud parents of four children.

Sam was a long-time member of the Masons and later served as the Grand Master for the State of Florida in the late 1980s. Sam was also a long-time member of the Eastern Stars. He was a co-founder of the Love Chapter of Eastern Stars in Mannheim, Germany, along with his former wife, Ingrid.

Sam loved to gamble, go to garage sales, fishing and hunting, and especially enjoyed his hunting trips to Iowa because it brought him closer to family and friends. He also enjoyed whatever time he had with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild. Sam will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Sam is survived by three of his four children, Robert (Sharon) Lewis of Jewell, IA, Ingrid (Bruce) Nesbit of Jewell, IA, Sam (Marina) Lewis of Orlando, FL; son-in-law, Kevin Schnitker of Apopka, FL; his grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Lewis, Mark Lewis, Maggie Lewis, Regina (Michael) Jenkins, Jennifer Medina, Taylor Schnitker, Kyle Schnitker and Alexander Lewis; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his brother, Merlin (Joy) Lewis of Eustis, FL; his sister, Leona Kraemer of Yucaipa, CA; along with many nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Ingrid Lewis; daughter, Denise Schnitker; two sisters, Betty Hood and Gracie Stone; and nephew, Gary Stone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Stratford Specialty Care Center, 1200 HWY 175 East, Stratford, IA 50249, for all the care and love that they gave him over the past 12 ½ years.
