Olof Westrum passed away at Mercy Hospital in Webster City Friday, after an illness of several weeks. Just three weeks before his death he went through a major operation in the hospital and for a few days rallied from it and seemed to be doing well. Then he commenced failing and about a week before his death became unconcious remaining in that condition until his death.

Olof Westrum was born in Alfta, Helsingland, Sweden, April 19, 1845 and passed away March 12, 1926, having reached the ripe old age of 80 years, 8 months, 11 days.

He was married in Sweden to Miss Carrie Newblom, Nov. 11, 1866, and to this union eight children were born, one dying in infancy. He and his family migrated to America in the year 1868, and came to Hamilton County locating on a farm in this neighborhood. Mr. Westrum was confirmed in Sweden at the age of 14 in the Lutheran church. In 1903 he retired from active farming and moved into Stratford where he lived until two years ago when he went to live among his children. His wife passed away Feb. 28, 1920, at the age of 72 years.

Deceased leaves to mourn his passing four sons and three daughters. They are: Peter O. Westrum, Olof O. Westrum, Nels Westrum and J.O. Westrum, all of Stratford; Mrs. A.C. Johnson of Ames, Mrs. Clarence Neese and Mrs. Theodore Carlson, both of Stratford. Also one brother, John Westrum of Lake View and twenty-four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Deceased was one of the early pioneer settlers of this section. He was an honest, progressive man and a real home builder, not only for himself, but for his children and for the other settlers of his day and the present time. He was affectionately known to all as "Grandpa Westrum" and his ready smile and hearty handclasp were known to the people of this community. He was one of the grand old men of the community and he will be missed by everyone.

Funeral services were held from the Swedish Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Carl Ackerman. Interment was made in the South Marion Cemetery.
