Mrs. John P. Ulrich

Mrs. Carolina Christina Ulrich [headstone is spelled Ulrick] was born April 26, 1841, in Njerfehult, Norra Vi socken, Östergötland, Sweden. On June 6, 1877, she was united in marriage to John P. Ulrich and they emigrated to America in the year 1877 and took up their abode near Stratford. She was the mother of five children, Elmer, Ed, Wallie and Mrs. John Gabrielson, all of Stratford, and Edward, who passed away in infancy. Besides the living children she leaves twenty-three grand children and eight great grand children, and two sisters, living in St. Paul, Minn., to mourn her death. Her husband died on July 10, 1920, and two brothers and one sister have also preceded her in death.

She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Gabrielson, Feb. 12, 1930, at the age of 88 years, 9 months, 17 days. She had not been in good health for several years and some time before her death was taken seriously ill and being of such an advanced age she did not have vitality to combat the illness.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Gabrielson home, conducted by Rev. C.J. Ackerman of the local Baptist church. The remains were placed to rest in the South Marion cemetery.

Swedish records show that Christina Carolina Jonsdotter was born April 26, 1841 in Västra Eneby, Östergötland, Sweden, the daughter of Jon Nilsson and Lisa Cajsa Svensdotter. The family moved to Norra Vi parish in 1850. In 1860 Carolina moved to Kisa parish where she married Anders Fredrik Johansson on June 19, 1860. They had three sons together, all died at a young age. After her husband died on Dec. 4, 1876 she moved to Nykil parish where she married Johan Peter Samuelsson Ulrick on Dec. 4, 1876. One son, Carl Elmer (Elmer) was born on March 31, 1878 before they emigrated to America. Elmer's birth record and household examination rolls note that he is the biological son of Carolina only.
