Hershell [headstone does say Herschel] Swanson was born August 3, 1900 at Stratford and passed away January 1, 1979 at Winterset. Services were held at the First United Presbyterian Church at Winterset on January 4 with the Rev. Alan Parker officiating. Burial was in the South Marion Cemetery near Stratford.

Survivors include a wife, Berneal [Sawyer], one daughter, Mrs. Delores Plunk of Warrensburg, Mo. and a son, Oscar Swanson of Ankeny, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
