Funeral services for Helga Swanson, 85, Stratford, were held Thursday, June 5, at Stratford Lutheran Church, Stratford, Rev. Jennie Edinger conducted the 10:00 a.m. service. Interment was held in South Marion Cemetery, Stratford. Arrangements were completed by Stark-Welin Funeral Directors, Stratford.

Mrs. Swanson passed away at the Stratford Care Center Tuesday, June 3, 1986. She had been a resident for the past two weeks.

During the service the congregation sang, "Abide With Me" and "Children Of The Heavenly Father" accompanied by Ardelle Phipps. Bearers were Clayton Swanson, Michael Headley, Walt Sturtz, Brian Bergman, Daryl Erickson, Gary Signs, and Mark Signs.

Helga Anderson was born on February 8, 1901 at Mjolby, Ostergotland, Sweden. She was the daughter of Axel and Hedda (Jonsson) Anderson. The family came to the United States in 1914 and settled in Stratford. Helga attended Stratford schools.

In 1918 Helga married Axel Swanson at Boone. The couple made their home in Stratford. Mr. Swanson passed away in 1972. Helga was a homemaker and a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church.

Helga was preceded in death by her daughter, Naomi, two granddaughters, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Doris) Bergman, Stratford, son, Donald Swanson, Stratford; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Marie Fostberg, Stratford.
