FATHER, SON IN HOSPITAL AFTER AUTO CRASH

HENRY, LAVERNE STROMERT HURT NEAR STRATFORD

LaVerne, the Son, Suffered Skull Fracture and Is Still Unconscious in This City

LaVerne Stromert, Stratford, R.R. No. 1, was still unconscious in the Boone county hospital Saturday forenoon as the result of an automobile accident a mile south of Stratford late Friday afternoon.

Stromert suffered a fractured skull while his father, Henry Stromert, suffered two broken processes in his back and severe facial cuts, but his condition was reported as improved by hospital attendants Saturday.

Crash at Corner

According to a report of the accident, which occurred between 4 and 5 o'clock Friday afternoon, the Stromert machine, driven by Mr. Stromert, was traveling south on the county farm road, while a car driven by Mr. Woods, Fort Dodge salesman, was traveling east. The two machines met in the intersection and were both heavily damaged in the crash.

The Stromert machine was turned around as a result of the crash and hit a light pole while the Woods machine overturned two or three times. The right side of the Stromert machine was mashed in and the motor was driven back into the front seat. The Woods machine was badly damaged when it rolled over, landing in a ditch on the left side of the road.

To Hospital Here

The Stromerts were rushed to the Boone county hospital after emergency treatment at Stratford. Woods suffered only minor injuries which did not require a physician's care.

Both LaVerne and Mr. Stromert are well known in Boone, having lived near this city for many years, and their many friends hope for their speedy recovery.

Auto Crash Injuries Fatal to Young Stromert Here

CONSCIOUSNESS NOT REGAINED BEFORE DEATH

Laverne Was 24 Years of Age and Resided With Parents on Farm On Stratford, R.R.1.

Never regaining consciousness after suffering a fractured skull in an automobile accident last Friday, LaVerne Stromert of Stratford, R.F.D.D.1, succumbed late yesterday afternoon at the Boone county hospital.

His was the first auto accident death in this county this year, although the accident which resulted fatally did not occur in this county. The young farmer, 24 years of age, was fatally injured at a corner a mile south of Stratford.

Graduate of B.H.S.

The young man's father, Henry Stromert, is in the hospital recovering from injuries suffered in the accident. The son was well known here, having been graduated from Boone high school in 1932. Since his graduation he had remained at home with his parents, assisting his father in operating the farm.

The accident occurred between 4 and 5 p.m. January 27. Mr. Stromert, Sr., was driving south and his machine and one driven by Burdett Woods, Ft. Dodge oil salesman, crashed. Woods was driving east.

Rushed Here

After being given emergency treatment at Stratford, the injured father and son were rushed to the hospital here. It was feared that younger Stromert would not recover when he did not regain consciousness. Woods was reported to have suffered broken ribs and other less serious injuries.

The accident victim is survived by his parents [Henry & Elin Lindberg Stromert] and a sister, Inez, of Des Moines. To them and the other surviving relatives the sympathy of a host of friends is extended. No funeral arrangements had been completed this forenoon.

The father, who suffered a broken back and other injuries, was reported this forenoon as having a good night. Those who saw the crash machines said they were badly wrecked
