February 26, 1931

Leonard Swen Johnson was born near Stratford in Webster County, Feb. 13, 1885, and died at his home in Stratford, Feb. 18, 1931, just five days after he had passed his 46th birthday. He had always made Stratford his home and had spent most of his life here. For several years he had been a sufferer from heart disease and this was the cause of his sudden death.

He leaves his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Swen M. [Clara Samuelson] Johnson; two brothers, Earl and Garrett Johnson, both of Stratford; and two sisters, Mrs. James Kail and Mrs. Etta Eisenhart, also both of this place, to mourn his untimely death. One sister, Mary Ann, died in infancy. Five nephews and four nieces also mourn his passing as do a number of other relatives.

For some years Leonard was engaged in the automobile business in Boone and in Fort Dodge and in both places as well as in his home town, he had many hosts of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Friday at 1:30 p.m. and at the Methodist church at 2:00 o'clock. These services were in charge of the pastor, the Rev. C.R. Yeager, who was assisted by Will Kelley, a long time friend of the deceased. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. S.E. Shaeffer, Mrs. Geo. Peterson, George Harrison and Sam Swedlund, sang several appropriate numbers at the funeral service. Interment took place in the South Marion Cemetery.
