OBITUARY

Henry Frederick Gustafson

Henry Frederick Gustafson, oldest son of John F. and Matilda [Samuelsdotter] Gustafson, was born in Galesburg, Ill., Nov. 27, 1878. He died at the Boone County Hospital Sept. 3, 1948, at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 7 days. He had been a patient at the hospital for five months.

In February 1881, he came to Iowa with his parents, locating on a farm east of Stratford in which community he always resided. He engaged in farming, an occupation he continued until his health failed.

He attended the rural schools near his home and for many years was a member of the East Marion Band and a member of the board of directors of the Farmers' Savings Bank of Stratford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Morton, his sister, Mrs. Lottie Erickson, two brothers who died in infancy, and by a niece, Alice Erickson, and a nephew, Donald Gustafson.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Erickson of Stanhope; two brothers, Charley E. of Des Moines and J. Rudolph of Stratford; an aunt, Mrs. Selma Trudson of Chicago, 16 nieces and nephews and a number of cousins.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon (Monday, Sept. 6) at 1:30 o'clock in the Jackson Funeral Home and at 2:00 in the Stratford Lutheran Church, with the Rev. F.W. Hanson conducting the services. Two solos were sung at both services by the Rev. Mr. Hanson, who also chose as his text the 90th Psalm, using as his theme, "Christ the Way of Life."

Following the services the remains were interred in the South Marion Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers, Ernest Erickson, Virgil Erickson, Herbert Erickson, George Erickson, Elmer Erickson and Gerald Gustafson.
