Ted H. Grabau, 89 of Grand Island, Nebraska formerly of Boone County, Iowa, died Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Good Samaritan Room at the Good Samaritan Village. Reverend Rodney Armon will officiate. Visitation will be an hour before service time. Military honors flag folding will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in the South Marion Cemetery in Hamilton County, Iowa. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the family.
Mr. Grabau was born October 8, 1927 on a family farm in Boone County, Iowa the son of Theodore and Grace (Meyer) Grabau.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Marietta; children, Annette (Jay) Thorington of Powell, Wyoming, Carla (Lonnie) Nunnenkamp of Alda, Nebraska and Ted Dennis (Donita) Grabau of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren, Zachary Thorington, Samuel Thorington, Leisa Rowe, Rachel Vedder, Ryan Grabau, Lauren Grabau and Alyson Hughes and nine great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Westrum.
Ted grew up on the family farm in Iowa, graduating from Boone High School class of 1944. He attended Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. On December 26, 1948 he was married to Marietta Westrum on her family farm in Stratford, Iowa.
Ted farmed, worked construction and then was a home builder. He retired in 1989. He and his wife moved to Grand Island in 2013.
Some of his involvements included, the Lions Club, Farm Bureau, and American Soil Conservation, Farmers Cooperative Elevator in Boone and Trinity Lutheran Church Elder and School Board Member in Boone.
