Oscar Erickson Dies at 76

Oscar Erickson, 76, longtime resident of the Stanhope community, died at 5:10 p.m. Friday at the Hamilton County Hospital where he had been a patient the past two weeks. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services are pending, with the Foster Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Erickson is survived by seven sons and three daughters: Floyd of Webster City; Norman of Stratford; Carl of San Francisco; Elmer of Ottosen; Herbert of Boone; Virgil of Stanhope and George of Stratford; Mrs. Carl (Hazel) Anderson of Ames, Mrs. Harold (Edna May) Geiger of San Francisco and Mrs. Lawrence (Roberta) McDaniel of Yakima, Wash. Also surviving is one brother, John Erickson of Stanhope.

An obituary and time of services will be published later in the Freeman-Journal.

Erickson Rites To Be Tuesday

Funeral services for Oscar E. Erickson, 76, longtime Stanhope resident, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the South Marion Church southeast of Stratford. The Rev. C.F. Schmidt of Stanhope and the Rev. A.G. Heddle of Stratford will officiate with burial in the South Marion Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral Home until noon Tuesday when it will be taken to the South Marion Church.

Mr. Erickson died Friday afternoon at the Hamilton County Hospital where he had been a patient the past two weeks.

Oscar Edward Erickson, son of Olof and Martha {Ericsdotter] Erickson, was born Oct. 25, 1877 in a log cabin on a farm near Stratford. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to a farm near Stanhope. He received his elementary schooling in the schools of that community and always made his home in that vicinity.

He was united in marriage March 23, 1898 to Clara Jacobson, and to this union four children were born - Floyd of Webster City, Norman of Stratford, Carl of San Francisco and Mrs. Carl (Hazel) Anderson of Ames. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died Dec. 5, 1907. On Nov. 4, 1908, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Gustafson, and to this union seven children were born: Elmer of Ottesen, Iowa; Herbert of Boone; Virgil of Stanhope; George of Stratford; Mrs. Harold (Edna May) Geiger of San Francisco; Mrs. Lawrence (Roberta) McDaniel of Yakima, Wash. and Alice, who preceded him in death.

Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one brother, John, of Stratford.

Besides one daughter, he was preceded in death by his wife who died Jan. 8, 1942; his parents, three brothers and one sister.
