Family services for Bessie Marguerite Erickson, 97, will be held at the Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. Graveside services will be held at the South Marion Cemetery at Stratford on Monday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. Mrs. Erickson died Nov. 15, 1999.

Bessie Marguerite Erickson, daughter of Frank and Anna Swattosh, was born Boone County, Iowa on Dec. 26, 1901. She attended country school until eighth grade and then went to Boone High School. She worked as a stenographer for several years for the Holst Publishing Company of Boone until April 1925. While at Boone, she married Norman Hugo Erickson, son of Oscar and Clara Erickson of Stanhope. Following her marriage, she worked with her husband in their poultry and hatchery business. Two children, Darrell Merlin, who died at birth, and Gerald Norman of Spirit Lake, were born to the marriage. She moved to Stratford in 1939 and to Spirit Lake in 1989.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, her husband in 1955, and two sisters, Josephine Swattosh and Agnes Capps. Survivors are son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Mary of Spirit Lake, granddaughter, Sue Ann Aitchison and her husband Randall, and great-grandson, Michael, and granddaughter, Connie Erickson Hill in New Orleans.
