Arvid L. Erickson, 85 of Stratford, Iowa, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, December 16, 1997 due to congestive heart failure.

He was born on September 4, 1912 in Stratford, Iowa the son of Nels and Clara (Berglund) Erickson.

On October 8, 1934 he married Velma Peterson at Stratford, Iowa.

He farmed until 1947 when the couple moved to town. At that time, he did trucking and corn shelling until his retirement.

Arvid was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Stratford Volunteer Fire Department, Stratford Rescue Unit, and served as a councilman on the Stratford City Council.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Emil and Waller Erickson.

Survivors include his wife, Velma of Stratford, IA, two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Paul Angell of Tucson, AZ, Patricia and Dale Tuel of Stratford, IA; one son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Joyce Erickson of Littleton, CO; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Enderson and her husband Tilford of Stanhope, IA, and Alma Wing of Marshall, MN.

Services were held on Friday, December 19 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating.

Interment was in South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford. Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford was in charge of arrangements.
