Arlene Fern (Erickson) Engstrom was born July 9, 1912, the daughter of Alfred and Alvina (Waller) Erickson of Marion Township, Hamilton County, Iowa.

Arlene married Melvin W. Engstrom on February 10, 1932 at the Stratford Baptist Church. This union was blessed with a son, Duward Melvin Engstrom and a daughter, Doris Ardelle Engstrom.

Arlene worked in the Stanhope School cafeteria, Sorenson Cafe and the Stanhope Locker. She enjoyed working with her flowers.

Arlene passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames at the age of 89 of heart failure.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Melvin W. Engstrom of Story City; a son Duward and his wife Cindy (Goss) of LaFeria, Texas; a daughter, Doris Mathre and her husband Les of Story City; a daughter-in-law, Joye Engstrom of Boone, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jennifer Friedmeyer, Denny Krumm, Dan Engstrom, Cindy O'Brien and Karol Krumm; five step grandchildren, Cheryl Hoffman, Diane Larson, Larry Mathre, Tiffany Goss and Stephanie Goss; nine great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren; and four step great-great grandchildren.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Ruth (Lund) Erickson; a son-in-law, Hurley Krumm and a step great grandson, Troy Jacobson.
