January 24, 1931 ---- June 11, 1997

Betty Joan (Josie) Otteros, 66, of Williams, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997 at Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services were held Monday, June 16, at Vernon Lutheran Church, rural Dows. Rev. Glenn Kappelmann officiated the 1:30 p.m. service. Burial was in Vernon Lutheran Cemetery. Elledge Funeral Home of Dows was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Judy Watne was organist and Mrs. Candace Twedt the soloist. Casketbearers were Martina Doss, Tru Twedt, Melissa Otteros, Travis Twedt, Tiffany Finley, Quintin Otteros, Amanda Otteros, Ryan Otteros, and Antelina Tonsi.

Josie was born January 24, 1931, in Mason City, the daughter of W. Vern and Mable Frisenborg Cawley. She was raised and educated in Mason City. On February 15, 1947, she and Frederick Andrew (Fritz) Otteros were united in marriage in Kansas City, Missouri. After their marriage, they lived and farmed on the same farm where Fritz was born. They spent their entire 50 years of marriage farming in Williams. For the past 24 years, they have spent their winter months living at Lake Havasu City, Arizona. On May 28, 1997, Fritz died at Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion.

Survivors include two sons - Martin and wife Debra of Williams; Kirby and wife Susan of Bastrop, Texas; one daughter - Candace Twedt and husband Craig of Williams; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two brothers - William of Owatonna, Minnesota; Roger of Altoona. Her parents and one daughter, Celeste Shields in 1994, preceded her in death. Josie was a member of Vernon Lutheran Church where she was active in the ladies aid.
