Lynn Engstrom, 89, formerly of Story City, Iowa passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa on Wednesday evening, February 27, 2002 due to congestive heart failure. He had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab in Stratford, Iowa since April of 2000.

He was born on November 17, 1912 in El Campo, Texas, the son of Fred and Mamie (Sullivan) Engstrom. On December 2, 1934, he married Eleanor Patterson at Stratford, Iowa.

Lynn moved from Texas as a child. The couple lived and farmed in the Stratford area until 1968 when the family moved to Story City, Iowa. He was employed at the Stanhope Coop Elevator and later at the Memorial Union on the Iowa State University campus in Ames, Iowa.

He was a longtime member of the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford and also attended the Grace United Methodist Church at Story City. He was a 4H leader in Hamilton County. Lynn enjoyed woodworking, having made many special projects for family, friends, and the church.

His parents, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, Betty Partney, and infant twin brothers preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Eleanor of Stratford, Iowa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Doris Engstrom of St. Louis, Missouri, Daryl and Jean Engstrom of Stratford, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Del Denekas of Story City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Douglas Engstrom and his wife Cathy of Des Moines, Iowa, Emmaly Burkland and her husband Scott of Shakopee, Minnesota, Anthony Engstrom of Des Moines, Iowa, Bret Denekas and his wife Sherry of Story City, Iowa, Debra Blackwood and her husband David of Orlando, Florida, Angie Foster and her husband Chris of Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, Chrysten and Zachary Denekas of Story City, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah Engstrom of Des Moines, Iowa, Jordan and Brittany Burkland of Shakopee, Minnesota, Danielle, Brooke and Hailey Foster of Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, Audrey Denekas of Story City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Irene Johnson and Evelyn Patterson both of Stratford, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held Monday afternoon, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Dale Schoening and Lay Minister Gina Spohnheimer officiating.

Interment was at South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford.

Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
