Lydia Doerr, 98, formerly of 918 Avon Street in Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa on Saturday evening, December 7, 1996 due to congestive heart failure. She had been a resident at the Eastern Star Masonic Home since February 1995.

She was born on October 20, 1898 in Linden, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Sara (Gilmore) Brody. On June 20, 1920, she married William H. Doerr at Ocheyedan, Iowa. The couple moved to Boone in 1942. In 1946 they moved to Stratford where they were co-owners of Doerr Drug until 1970.

Lydia was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Magi Chapter #139, Lioness of the Lions Club, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 75 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill in October of 1986, 1 son, 2 grandsons, 2 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Gerald Pepper of Ames, Iowa; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Marylee Doerr of Fort Collins, Colorado; Paul and Joann Doerr of Post Falls, Idaho; 21 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Juanita Hollar of Jamaica, Iowa and Ruby Moses of Bagley, Iowa; 1 brother, Fred Brody of Des Moines, Washington; and nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Wednesday, December 11, 1996 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Rev. Sue Ellen Sherman officiating.

Interment was in South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford.

Memorials may be given to Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa or the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa.

The Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford was in charge of arrangements.
