STRATFORD - William Doerr, 88, Stratford, died Wednesday, October 1, at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames.

Funeral services were Monday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church at Stratford, with Rev. Richard Russell and Leonard Doeaver officiating. Burial was in South Marion Cemetery.

William Doerr, son of Joseph and Caroline Jones Doerr, was born March 27, 1898 in Cherokee. On June 2, 1920, he married Lydia Brody at Ocheyedan. He attended Des Moines University and obtained a pharmacy degree. He began his career in Ocheyedan in the 1920s.

From 1942-1946, Mr. Doerr had a pharmacy in Boone. He moved to Stratford and owned and managed Doerr Drug until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Lydia; one daughter, Bonnie (Mrs. Gerald) Pepper of Ames; three sons, Dale of Indianapolis, Robert of Corona, Calif., and Paul of Coeur DeLane, Idaho; 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Stratford Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and numerous professional pharmacists organizations. He was a veteran of World War I.

Mr. Doerr was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.
