Mrs. Carlson, 86, died today; rites to be Wednesday

Mrs. Theodore (Jennie) Carlson, 86, longtime resident of the Webster City - Stratford community, died early this morning at East Lane Manor in Jewell where she had been a patient the past four months.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Webster City with Rev. Marvin E. Brewer officiating and with burial in the South Marion Cemetery near Stratford. The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Jennie Westrum, daughter of Olof and Carrie Westrum, was born June 17, 1881, on a farm near Stratford. She was reared and educated in the Stratford community.

She was united in marriage May 20, 1903, to Theodore Carlson, and the couple started housekeeping on the Carlson farm near Stratford. In December, 1941, they retired from farming and moved into Webster City purchasing a home at 1002 Division St. in the spring of 1942.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters, Ransom Carlson, Chester Carlson and Wendell Carlson, Mrs. Beryl (Arlene) Cottington and Mrs. Mervyn (Maxine) Dick, all of the Stanhope-Stratford community; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ica Westrum and Mrs. Clara Anderson, both of Stratford.

She was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 21, 1956; by a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter; by her parents; four brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Carlson was a member of the Stanhope Christian church, but since residing in Webster City had been active in the Church of Christ here. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
