Fern Carlson, 85, of 1213 110th Street, Stratford, Iowa, passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa on Tuesday evening July 11, 1995 due to respiratory failure.

She was born March 22, 1910 on her parents homestead near Stratford, Iowa, the daughter of John Albert and Sophia (Bjustrom) Patterson.

On Feb. 27, 1929, she married Kenneth Carlson at the Patterson homestead, near Stratford, Iowa.

Fern graduated from the Stratford High School, and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford and a lifetime member of the U.M.W.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant daughters, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband Kenneth Carlson of Stratford, Iowa; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Marlyn Anderson, Pat and Dale Westrum, and Karen and LeRoy Williams, all of Stratford; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sherry Carlson of Boone; one brother, John Clarence Patterson of New York City, NY; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday, July 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church south of Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Stratford, Iowa on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until noon, when the casket will be taken to the church.
