Belmont B. Hegland, 87, Story City, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, with Revs. Tom Hunt and Stephen Anenson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday after 3 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City.

Belmont Hegland, son of Peter and Bertha (Peterson) Hegland, was born April 12, 1910 in Radcliffe. On Aug. 19, 1940 he married Edna Denekas. The couple farmed in the Radcliffe area until 1954 when they moved to the Stanhope area. They then moved to Story City in 1984, the same year he retired.

He is survived by his wife; one brother, Irvin Hegland, Ames; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Perry Hegland; and two sisters, Myrtle Ubben and Amy Cornell.

Mr. Hegland was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City and a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope, where he served as a trustee.
