Ardis Jean Hunt, 93, Red Oak, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.
Ardis was born March 3, 1924, in Kamrar, the daughter of John and Freda (Hemmen) Klaver. She attended school at Blairsburg Consolidated School through her freshman year and completed high school at Lincoln High in Webster City in the class of 1941. She then attended one year of junior college. She met Wm. Keith Hunt in 1942, and they were married May 5, 1943, at the First Congregational Church in Webster City. While Keith was in the Navy and served overseas in the Pacific Theater, she worked for Dr. L.M. Rogers at the offices of the National Chiropractic Association in Webster City. In 1948, Keith and Ardis bought a Super Valu grocery store in Woodward, and in 1950, they, along with Keith's brother, Eldon, bought the Super Valu store in Red Oak. They operated that store until 1981 along with building and operating the Gold Crown Inn restaurant from 1964 until 1983. Ardis did the bookkeeping for the businesses for many years. Ardis was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1956, United Methodist Women, Red Oak Monday Club, served as a Cub Scout den mother, and many other community activities. She enjoyed her family and friends, traveling in their motor home, reading, and volunteering. She and Keith spent winters in Winter Garden, Fla., for several years after retirement.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Keith Hunt on Nov. 21, 1997.
Survivors include her children, Jeffrey Hunt of Denver, Colo.; James Hunt of San Antonio, Texas; Julie Pote and husband Vern of Buford, Ga.; and Janis Hunt Batten and husband Marshall of Red Oak; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Hunt of Denver; Kristopher Hunt of Matairie, La.; Melanie Pote and Travis Pote of Buford; great-granddaughter, Maddie Pote of Buford; sisters-in-law, Frances Colyer of Mesa, Ariz., and Carole Hunt of Nevada, Iowa.; special cousin, Shirley Eckstine of Webster City; and many long-time friends and long-time employees of Hunts Super Valu and Gold Crown Inn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
