Franklin Carlson Funeral Services

Funeral services for Franklin Theodore Carlson were held at 1 o'clock at Schroeder funeral home at at 2 o'clock at the South Marion church on Friday, Dec. 12, 1952. In charge were Rev. Frohardt of Boone and Rev. Heddle of South Marion church.

Mrs. Roy Bergquist and Mrs. Will Holstrum sang three songs, "Rock of Ages," "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul," accompanied by Miss Elsie Swedlund.

The pallbearers were O.W. Hanson, Walter R. Johnson, N.E. Julander, Will Halstrom, B.E. Patterson and Merrill Monson.

Those in charge of the floral offerings were Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Mott, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Magnuson and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Crim.

Burial was in the South Marion Cemetery.

Life Sketch

Franklin Theodore Carlson, son of John A. and Mary [Sackrison] Carlson of Stratford, was born on Feb. 22, 1877 near Stratford, and passed away from this life in the Boone county hospital on December 9, 1952, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 17 days.

The early part of his life he lived on a farm 1 mile east of South Marion church. He also attended the Iowa Business College in Des Moines.

On June 27, 1907 he was united in marriage to Tillie Swedlund and to this union was born four sons, all of whom survive.

After his marriage he lived in Des Moines for approximately four years and then took up farming in Hamilton county and later in Boone county near Madrid.

He united with the South Marion church under the pastorate of Rev. Pearson in Oct., 1916. He was a faithful member of the South Marion church until his death.

He retired from farming on Jan. 4, 1951, and bought a home at 1324 Greene street, where he lived until the time of his death. During his residence in Boone he attended the First Methodist church. Monday, Dec. 8, he was taken to the hospital and passed away there on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Carlson, a brother, Vern, and two sisters, Mabel and Nettie.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Franklin Carlson, Boone; four sons, Marion Carlson of Stanhope; Eldren Carlson of Mason City; Ivyl Carlson of Madrid, and Embert of Des Moines, also his mother, Mary A. Carlson, Stratford; two brothers, Ernest Carlson of Minneapolis and Morris of Stratford; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Wahman of Stratford, and Alice Youngberg of Des Moines; 8 grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
