Leland George Roe, 81, of Ames, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Leland was born May 22, 1937, in Rural Hamilton County, the son of Raymond George and Leila Mathel (Bahrenfuss) Roe. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1956 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1961. On August 25, 1959, Leland was united in marriage to Judy Elaine Moenck at the First United Methodist Church in Duncombe, Iowa. Leland was a fire worker at the Ames Power Plant for 31 years, retiring in 2001.

Leland was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ames, American Legion Post #37 in Ames and the Loyal Order of the Moose #520 in Ames. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and computer puzzles.

Leland is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy of Ames; his children: Linda Hofer (David Greco) of Ames, Brenda (Dave) Vos of Johnston, David (Kim) Roe of North Platte, NE and Jerry Roe of Ames; his sister, Velva (Don) Weir of Des Moines; his brother, Buryl (Judy) Roe of Atlanta, GA and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Amber Vos.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at the First United Methodist Church in Ames. Family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Private burial will be at Washington Township Cemetery in Duncombe.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
