H.W. Gerber, 72, Dies; Services Here Thursday

Prominent Kamrar Resident Dies at University Hospital

H.W. Gerber, 72, prominent Kamrar resident and long time Hamilton county resident, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday at the University hospital in Iowa City. He had been in failing health the past few months, but critically ill the past week. His death was due to a sudden heart attack.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Webster City with the Rev. H.H. Schauland officiating. There will be a brief service at 2 p.m. at the Foster funeral home preceding the church services.

Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

Henry William Gerber, son of Daniel and Caroline Gerber, was born Feb. 24, 1882 on a farm four miles southwest of Webster City. He was educated in the rural schools near Webster City.

He was united in marriage June 14, 1905 to Alice Cassen, and following their marriage they moved to a farm south of Webster City. Later, they moved to near Ortley, South Dakota where they farmed for 10 years.

They returned to Iowa in 1918 and resided on a farm one mile northwest of Kamrar until their retirement in 1950 when they moved to Kamrar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Kirchner, Mrs. Kate Butler and Mrs. Anna Evans, and two brothers, Lewis and Fred Gerber.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Walter H. Gerber of Kamrar and Arthur E. Gerber of Holstein; six grandchildren, two brothers, Charles C. Gerber, of Webster City and Daniel Gerber of Manitoba, Canada. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gerber was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Webster City and of the Modern Woodmen of America.

A kind, neighborly man, his main interests were his home and his family.
