Kenneth Calvin Bockwoldt, 93, of Stanhope, passed away on February 15, 2018 at Stratford Specialty Care Center. Memorial services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope on Friday, February 23rd at 1:00 p.m. Visitation was at the church an hour prior to the service, where the family greeted friends.

Kenneth Calvin Bockwoldt was born January 16, 1925 at Story City, Iowa to Arthur F. and Gertrude (Hoversten) Bockwoldt. Kenneth graduated from Stanhope High School in 1943.

He farmed after high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served one year in the occupation of Japan with the 8th Army Division. After returning home, he attended Iowa State University briefly. He won an airplane in a raffle, which he flew with Flying Farmers to Pre-Castro Cuba, with no instruments but a compass and portable radio. He met his future wife on a trip to California. He courted her for two years by flying to Montezuma, Iowa on weekends, landing in hayfields or pastures. He married Edna Marie Wells on June 29, 1952, at Ewart, Iowa.

He was a farmer in the Stanhope area for many years. Kenneth was a very active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanhope, where he served in many capacities. He also served on many boards including Pork Producers, and Central Iowa Co-Op. He was everyone's friend.

He is survived by his son Mark and wife Debi of Stanhope; granddaugher, Mackenzie J. Stodola and husband Chris of Woodbury, MN; grandsons, Jason Sawyer of Burlington, VT and Jeb Sawyer and wife Theresa of Excelsior, MN; great grandchildren, Madeline, Freddie, Chiara, Adeline, and Penelope; nephews, Todd Christensen and wife Monica of Lima, Peru and Scott Christensen and wife Jane of Portales, MN; and many beloved cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Marie; his parents; his sister, Margaret; niece, Ann Christensen and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Stanhope Fire and Rescue in memory of Kenneth.
