Donald Dass, age 87, of Jewell, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his residence.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery rural Ellsworth, Iowa.

The family received friends on Tuesday, December 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe, Iowa. Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Algene Dass, son of William E. and Meta (Klaffke) Dass was born on February 11, 1930 in rural Iowa Falls, Iowa. He attended country school Krause #4, west of Buckeye, Iowa. He graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1948.

Don married Virginia May Wilson at the Methodist Church in Radcliffe on June 24, 1951. Don lived and worked in Iowa Falls before purchasing his own business in Jewell in 1962. In 1973, Don began working for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1995. Don passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2017.

Don was an antique gas engine enthusiast and enjoyed working with metal. Over his life he was a member of the Jewell Lions Club, Jewell Fire and Rescue, Mid-Iowa Antique Power Club, Jewell Golf and Country Club, Blacksmithing Club, Central Hawkeye Engine Club, Red Power Club, and Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia of Jewell; son Steven (Carol) Dass, Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Mona (Rod) Bengtson, Aitkin, MN; brother LaVerne Dass, Fort Dodge, IA; sister Karen (Denny) Kielsmeier, Hubbard, IA; sister Sheryl (Ron) Hodges, Madrid, IA; sister LeAnn Dass (Cheryl Burgett), Carlisle, IA; along with several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother Marland.
