South Hamilton Record News, Jewell, Iowa, September 20, 2017

Clifford Dale Mortenson, 72, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born January 17, 1945 in Story City to parents Esther (Mechaelsen) Mortenson and Richard C. Mortenson. He was raised on the family farm NE of Jewell, IA with his siblings Richard (Dick), Louise (Sue), Linda and Clair (Bud).

Cliff attended school in Jewell and graduated from South Hamilton High School in 1963. He was a talented athlete and participated in baseball and basketball. He graduated from Buena Vista University in 1967, where he was a member of the men's basketball team.

Upon graduation, he was employed by the State of Iowa Department of Banking for 13 years, eventually attaining the position of the Senior Examiner in charge of the Cedar Falls territory. He later went to work for Cedar Falls Trust & Savings Bank, now US Bank, for 15 years, and later Farmers State Savings Bank, now BankIowa, for 17 years.

In 1975, he was united in marriage to Jane Fisher in Emmetsburg, IA and from that union two sons were born, Josh and Ross. He retired from the banking industry in June of 2013. He remained active in Lions Club, Black Hawk Economic Development and his Investments Club.

Cliff is survived by his sons and their wives (Jill and Amber); the grandchildren he adored (Ben, Luke, Sage and Drew); siblings Linda Hove of Kewanee, IL and Bud Mortenson of Boone IA; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
