South Hamilton Record News, Jewell, Iowa, August 9, 2017

Charles "Chuck" Eugene Jewell, 82, of Jewell, Iowa, passed away on August 2, 2017 at LifeBridge Transitional Care at Bethany Life Communities in Story City, surrounded by his family.

The family received friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6 at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, also at Grace United Methodist Church. Chuck was laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Story City prior to the funeral service.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia (Jensen) Jewell; his daughters, Denise (Kurt) Carlson, Debra (Dan) Baker, Kellie (Rich) Tesch; his son, Kendall Jewell and his partner, Tami Wicks; seven grandchildren, Grant (Sarah) Carlson, Valerie (Adam) Hubert, Chase Jewell, McKenna Jewell, Paige Jewell, Jake Tesch and Abbie Tesch; and four great-grandchildren.

Chuck's brothers, Don (Sue) Jewell and Jerry Jewell, as well as his sister, Nancy Jewell, sister-in-law, Carol Jewell, and brother-in-law, Larry Cherry are also left to mourn his passing.

Chuck was a man of strong principles and a loving husband, father, grandfather and neighbor to all.

Chuck had a passion for the land and all aspects of farming. He diligently worked the farm near Jewell for over 60 years. In his early years, he enjoyed farming with his friend and mentor, Andy Miller.

Later in his life he was proud to share farming duties with his son, Kendall. He was also pleased that grandson, Chase, was as enamored with farm life as his grandpa. He was fond of country music and his children can each recall him singing along to the radio or teaching them a long-lost country standard.

He was a voracious reader and could read through an enticing crime mystery in record time. Chuck also thoroughly delighted in the time he spent with friends at the early morning Casey's coffee club.

Chuck is now reunited with his parents, Wilmer and Julia (Haugland) Jewell; his brothers, Carroll Jewell and Jim Jewell; his sisters, Doris Powers-Cherry and Anna Jewell; as well as his exceptional friends, mentors and farming partners, Andy and Lois Miller.

A special thank you is extended to the men and women of Jewell Fire and Rescue for assisting Chuck many times this spring. He felt safe and secure when he was in their care. Additional thanks are extended to the myriad of medical professionals and caregivers at McFarland Clinic, Mary Greeley Hospital, Mercy Medical Center and Bethany Life for the support and compassion they showed to Chuck during the spring and summer of 2017.

Memorials in remembrance of Chuck may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Transitional Care at Bethany Life Communities, or Jewell Fire and Rescue.

Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell is assiting the family with arrangements.
