Ardene C. Hindt passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at her apartment in Story City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the Jewell United Church of Christ in Jewell, IA, with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.

Ardene Catherine was born Monday, January 26, 1931 in Granville, Iowa to Fred P. and Josephine (Kolbeck) Gaul. She was the eldest of nine children. She received her Eighth Grade Diploma from St. Joseph's School in Ashton, Iowa.

Ardene married the late Marion F. Hindt on January 20, 1953 in Sibley, Iowa. Marion and Ardene lived in Minnesota for over 50 years before returning to Iowa. Ardene worked as a bookkeeper and in retail for most of her life. When she returned to Iowa, she volunteered at Affordables in Story City, which she enjoyed very much.

Ardene was a member of the Jewell United Church of Christ. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's activities and events. Ardene also enjoyed cooking and baking, and when she did, she always made enough to feed an army.

Ardene is survived by her two daughters, Mary Jo (Griff) Lavik of Greensboro, GA and Linda (Kevin) Bottorff of Ellsworth, IA; grandchildren, Danielle (Michael) Kist, Kieler (Amanda) Bottorff, Erin Hindt, Kelly Hindt, Nick Hindt and Tracy Hindt; four great grandchildrey Riley, Annabelle, Kaiden and Sydney; siblings Paul (Pat) Gaul, Betty (Ralph) Larson, Patsy (Bernie) Ruppert and Bob Gaul.

Ardene was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; two sons, Steve and Richard and her parents and brothers Merlyn, Thomas, Richard and William Gaul.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jewell United Church of Christ, or Bethany Life in Story City.

Adams and Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story City, is in charge of arrangements.
