JEWELL - John Magnus Johnson, longtime Jewell grocery and former town official, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mildred Fudge, at Atlantic, Iowa. He had been ill for the past two years.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson home in Jewell and at 2 o'clock at the Bethesda Lutheran church with the Rev. I.B. Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Becker Funeral home will have charge of services.

John Magnus Johnson was born May 31, 1885 at Livingston county, Ill., a son of Rasmus and Lena Olson Johnson. He had lived virtually all his life in Jewell with the exception of a few years' spent in Nebraska.

He was married to Maria Danielson at Blue Earth, Minn., Jan. 31, 1911. Four children were born to this union, three of whom survive.

Surviving are his wife, and Raymond Johnson, Jewell; Mrs. Fudge of Atlantic; Wilbur Johnson, living in California; two brothers, Oscar Johnson of California and Joe Johnson of Washington state, and one sister, Mrs. Oscar Langland of Jewell.

Mr. Johnson had been a merchant in Jewell for forty years. He was a graduate of the former Jewell Lutheran college and had served as Sunday school superintendent at the Bethesda Lutheran church for many years. He also had served as town clerk and had formerly served on the town school board.
