Henry ‘Hank’ Tellinghuisen, age 79 of Boone, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:00 P.M., at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Henry Harold Tellinghuisen, was born on March 14, 1938 in Sibley, Iowa the son of Paul and Gertie (Funk) Tellinghuisen. He graduated from Sibley High School in 1956 Hank loved music and while in high school he was a member of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) Chorus. While performing in Kansas City, the chorus had the honor of having Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher sing some selections with them.

Hank farmed a few years in the Sibley area and in 1961, enlisted in the United States Army for three years during which he spent two years stationed in Germany. On July 1, 1962, Henry married Dorothy Nelson at Stanhope, Iowa. Dorothy joined him for 14 months and they traveled in and around Germany. After serving time in the military, Hank farmed on the family farm in Sibley for a few years before moving to a farm north of Stanhope, Iowa. Hank and Dorothy then moved to an acreage north of Boone and Hank sold livestock feeds to the farmers. They moved to Boone in December of 1972. Hank continued to sell livestock feeds and operated ‘Hank’s Small Engine Repair’.

Hank was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Boone and over the years served as an Elder, Deacon, on the Property Committee, and sang many years in the Church Choir. He had a love for music and sang bass in two Gospel Quartets, the Farmers Four Quartet and the Sacred Sounds Quartet. He was involved in recording three albums with the Farmers Four Quartet and one album with the Sacred Sounds Quartet. Hank enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, watching things grow, and his pets. He and Dorothy camped several years at Don Williams Lake and the Ledges and they enjoyed driving through the Ledges and McHose Park. Hank helped build Gary Creasman Little League Park in Boone and he coached in Little League and Babe Ruth. He was a member of AARP, the American Legion Post #56 of Boone, and he was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy of Boone; son, Daryl (Janine) Tellinghuisen of Boone; daughter, Sandee (Preston) Ward of Perry; three granddaughters, Ashley, Alexis, and Natasha Tellinghuisen; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Norma Tellinghuisen of Perham, Minnesota; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hiram, Marvin and Leonard Tellinghuisen; a sister, Grace Bents.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. where the family will be present, from 6 to 8 P.M. On Wednesday morning, friends may call at the funeral chapel from 8 to 10 A.M. and then at the Church from 12 noon until service time.

In memory of Hank, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Boone or Boone Area Humane Society.
