Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, October 23, 2017

Gaylord Nelson, 85, of Marion, formerly of Webster City, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Linn Manor in Marion. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Burial will follow the services at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Gaylord DeWayne Nelson, son of Harold and Frances Gibbons Nelson was born August 16, 1932 near Dayton. He attended school in Dayton and Boone, graduating from Boone High School in 1951. He married Fern Dutcher on October 12, 1951 in Stratford. The couple resided in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids for a few years before moving back to Webster City in 1954. Gaylord was the owner and operator of Kueen’s Mobile Homes which later evolved into Kueen’s Trailer Ranch. He retired in 1996 and moved to Marion in 2012.

Gaylord is survived by his loving wife, Fern; two sons, Stephen Nelson of Fort Dodge, Wesley (Bethene) Nelson of Central City; three grandsons, Matthew (Chelsea) Nelson, Ryan (Stacy) Nelson and Drew (Laura) Nelson; seven great-grandchildren and brother-in-law, Bob Brown of The Dalles, Oregon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Annabelle Brown and a son, Michael Nelson.

Gaylord was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City for over 60 years. Gaylord was especially generous, trusting and a loyal friend to everyone. He was a gentle man, very kind, patient and a mentor to many.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Gaylord.
