Betty Ruth (Isvik) Sharer, 91, of Jewell passed away on Tuesday October 3, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be Friday October 6 at 10:30 am at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Betty was born on February 11, 1926 near Jewell to Alfred and Grace (Ubben) Isvik. She went to country school and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1943. Betty went to nursing school in Marshalltown in 1944 and graduated in 1947 as an R.N. She worked as a nurse until she married Robert Sharer on February 20, 1949 in Jewell. They settled on a farm near Rhodes for two years and later moved to Hamilton County. They moved to their current farm near Jewell in 1952. Betty worked at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City for 33 years and retired in 1991.

Betty was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell and was active in the women’s groups, attending Bible Study and helped make quilts. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading and watching and listening to basketball and football games. Betty loved visiting with family and friends and hosting the Isvik family reunions for the past few years. She went with Bob to many parades and horse shows with his ponies for many years. Betty enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout the years.
Betty is survived by her husband, Bob, and children Linda (Ron) Wheeler, Larry (Donna) Sharer and Jerry Sharer. She is survived by four grandchildren and three great granddaughters. Betty is also survived by her brothers, Sterling Isvik and Arling Isvik; sister, Shirley (John) Wilkinson; brother-in-law, Melvin Meling and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, James; brother, Donald (Winifred) Isvik; sister, Angeline Meling and two infant brothers. Also preceded in death were sisters-in-law, LeNora Isvik and Beverly Isvik and niece Karen Seubert.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethesda Lutheran Church or Bethany Life Chaplain Fund. Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell is entrusted with arrangements.
