Charles M. Irving, 77, of rural Melbourne, a former Webster City area resident, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 5 at Southfield Care Center where he had been a resident since September. He had been in failing health since June 1965.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Mark officiating. Burial will be at the Blairsburg Cemetery. Friends may call at Foster Funeral Home today (Oct. 6) after 3 p.m.

Charles Martin Irving, son of Thomas and Mary Wood Irving, was born June 6, 1909 southwest of Webster City. He was educated in the rural schools in that area.

On Jan. 27, 1931, he married Freda Berogan at the Berogan home north of Blairsburg. The couple farmed east of Highview for eight years, before moving to a farm near Kamrar. In 1941, they purchased a farm northwest of Blairsburg.

His wife died on July 12, 1955. He continued to farm.

On Feb. 18, 1960, he married Aline Schmidt at Mulberry Center. The couple farmed for 20 years in the Grinnell area.

His second wife died on April 8, 1978. For the past six years, he resided at Melbourne.

He is survived by two sons, Keith and Ray of Blairsburg; four daughters, Bonnie (Mrs. Roy Greenfield) of Kamrar, Ruth (Mrs. Dean Jansen) of Bay City, Wis., Peggy (Mrs. Richard Mark) of Mankato, Minn., and Dorothy (Mrs. Al Wilcox) of Packwood; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He was a former member of the I.O.O.F. of Blairsburg.
