MRS. MARVEL DIES AT HOME

Mrs. Chas. W. Marvel Dies at Home, 1601 Willson Avenue, After Long Illness

FUNERAL HELD TODAY

Had Lived in Webster City for the Last 21 Years

Mrs. Chas. W. Marvel, well known resident of this city, died at the family home, 1601 Willson avenue, at 3:45 a.m. Saturday. She was taken ill over a year ago when she was attending a family reunion in Illinois. For the last six months her condition had been considered serious, although much of the time she had been able to be around. Since New Year's, however, she had been confined to her bed. She suffered from a tumor of the brain and, although the best of care was given her, she grew gradually worse. In an effort to regain her health she underwent an operation last summer at Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were held today in charge of the Methodist pastor, Rev. Thos. B. Collins. A short service will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m., followed by a service at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in Graceland cemetery.

Mrs. Marvel, whose maiden name was Sarah E. Wasson, was born in Dewitt county, near Clinton, Ill., Nov. 7, 1869, the daughter of J.W. and Caroline Wasson. She spent her childhood days on the home farm and received her early education in the public schools of that county. She then went to the university at Lincoln, Ill., and was graduated with a bachelor of letters degree in 1896.

Following her graduation she taught in the public schools of Illinois until her marriage, Nov. 27, 1900 to Mr. Marvel. They lived in Illinois until 1907 when they moved to Webster City, which has since been their home.

Mr. Marvel and three daughters, Mrs. Harold Mitchell, Miss Louise Marvel, Miss Lorene Marvel, all of this city, and two sons, Kenneth Marvel and Ralph Marvel, both of Blairsburg, survive. Two of her sisters and three brothers are also living. They are W.L. Wasson and Calvin Wasson, of Lincoln, Ill.; C.L. Wasson, of Decatur, Ill.; Mrs. J.T. Marvel, of Waynesville, Ill., now in San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Kate Fatland, of Gladstone, Ore.

Mrs. Marvel was a member of the Methodist church. Until her failing health, she was an untiring worker in its organizations and lived according to its teachings. She made a host of friends by her quiet and unassuming demeanor and her death is widely mourned in the community.
