Harold Iles, 99, of Webster City, died Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Harold Audley Iles, son of Grover and Maggie Malmberg Iles was born May 31, 1917 in Stratford. He attended local schools. Harold enlisted in the United States Army on June 29, 1942 and entered on July 13, 1942. He served in five operations in the European Theatre. He received a star for each campaign. He was serving in Austria before being honorably discharged from Camp McCoy in Wisconsin on October 28, 1945. On August 15, 1948, he married Esther Fortune in Homer, Iowa. The couple resided in Webster City. He worked at various farm jobs, Hart Carter, Fischer Meats, Seneca Market and retired from the Postal Service as a letter carrier in May of 1982.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Trudy Huisman of Des Moines; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad (Nancy) Iles of Webster City; four grandchildren, Dennis Bown, Traci Gordon, Eric Iles, and Joel Iles; five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Logan, Nevaeh, Damion and Eva; brother, Murlin (LouRene) Iles of Stratford.

Harold was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post #191 and the V.F.W. He volunteered with Senior Dining and at the Senior Citizen’s Center. He enjoyed reading and sharing stories of his military service.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife in 2013; sister, Genevieve Steuerwald; brothers, Myron, Donald, Clifford, and Kenneth Iles.
