Terry D. Swartz, age 74 of Boone, died July 9, 2017 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date.

Terry Dean Swartz was born in Webster City, Iowa on December 25, 1942, the son of Chauncey and Leona (Kugler) Swartz. Terry graduated from Webster City High School in 1960 and then earned his Associates Degree from Webster City Junior College. While living in Webster City, Terry served as Treasurer of Webster City Federal Savings & Loan. Moving to Boone in 1982, Terry served as Vice President and Treasurer of Hawkeye Federal Savings Bank. On June 12, 1982, Terry and Karen (Schoon) McFarland were married in Boone. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, the Boone Kiwanis Day-Breakers, Order of the Eastern Star, the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, and Financial Management Systems. Terry retired from the banking profession in 1996 and became self employed with Swartz Refinishing and also drove a bus for Boone County Transportation for a few years. He loved woodworking and traveling. One of the best memories of traveling was the “trip of a lifetime”. This trip was comprised of all 29 family members going to Turks and Caicos. For 20 years, Terry and Karen owned a cottage on Clear Lake where Terry loved biking and boating. The couple enjoyed the area for a ‘get away’ and to host family gatherings.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman Swartz; a sister-in-law, Sandra Swartz. Terry is survived by his wife Karen of Boone; two sons, Tyler (Michele) Swartz of Springville, Iowa Michael (Angela) McFarland of Anthem, Arizona; four daughters, Shelly (Shane) Harper of Boone, Iowa, Kristine (John) Boston of Fairfax, Iowa, Jill (Todd) Trometer of Fenton, Missouri, and Amanda (Tony) White of Norwalk, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren, Chase, Cassandra, Cole and Conner Harper; Anna and Lindsey Swartz; Dayton and Stuart Boston; Carson and Taylor Trometer; Jack, Max, and Madelyn McFarland and Talan and Slade White; one brother, Lee Swartz of Mesa, Arizona; and many loved ones.

Friends may call at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, on Thursday from 3 until 8 p.m., where the family will be present from 5 until 8 p.m. On Friday, friends may call at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

In memory of Terry, memorials may be directed to the Boone Area Humane Society, Augustana Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or the Boone Hope Foundation.
