Harold W. Knutson, 76, Iowa Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital of complications of emphysema. He was a former Jewell resident. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Rev. Charles H. Fleming officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery, with flag folding services conducted by the American legion. The Linn Funeral Home of Iowa Falls was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Wilfred Knutson, son of Simon A. and Tena Olson Knutson, was born July 3, 1913, in Valier, Mont. At the age of five, following the death of his father, Harold moved with his family to Jewell, where they made their home with the William E. Olsons, maternal grandparents. He attended country school and graduated from Stanhope High School. He attended Waldorf College in Forest City for one year. He was employed as a farm laborer for several years in the Jewell area.

He married Donna Mae Adams on Sept. 29, 1942 in Kahoka, Mo. He served in World War II with the U.S. Navy Medical Corps from 1942-1945 in the Pacific Theater. He was employed for 30 years as a gas serviceman with Iowa Electric Light & Power Co., retiring in 1979.

He is survived by his wife Donna, Iowa Falls; two sons, Howard Knutson, Lewisburg, Ohio, and Ronald Knutson, Iowa Falls; three daughters, Susan Bentele, Ventura; Linda Meyer, Alden, and Kristine Boyer, Iowa Falls; eight grandchildren; one brother, Tiller Knutson, Stanhope, and one sister, Beulah Olson, Jewell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and a granddaughter.

Mr. Knutson was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Jewell.
