Gerald Hansel, age 83, of Hubbard, IA, died on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.

A memorial visitation was held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Gerald Hansel was born on February 21, 1934 in Williams, Iowa to Anna and Sigurd Hansel.

He was baptized and confirmed at Rose Grove Lutheran Church.

Gerald graduated from Williams High School in 1952.

He joined the Army in 1953 and served in Germany until 1955. He farmed for 30 years near Williams raising cattle and Appaloosa horses.

On December 3, 1982, Gerald was united in marriage to Bonnie Hansel. They resided in Williams, Iowa, then he and Bonnie moved to Arizona and he worked in construction for 10 years. They moved back to Hubbard in 1992 and he worked at Remington Seed Company in Williams until his retirement.

He is survived by six children Toni (Jim) Olson of Waukee, IA, Juli (Randy) Meierotto of Davenport, IA, Rick (Linda) Dixon of Knobnoster, MO, Bobi (Pat) Buchan of Omaha, NE, Chuck (Sandy) Dixon of Bettendorf, IA and Jason Dixon of Carthage, MO; 12 grandchildren; brother Robert (Shirley) Hansel of Williams, IA; sister Shirley (Merlyn) Evans of Ellsworth, IA; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Anna and Sigurd Hansel, one brother Carrol Hansel, and his wife Bonnie.
