STANHOPE PIONEER DIES AT RIPE AGE

Mrs. Marie Frinks Stemple, Resident There Since 1876, Dies

Marie Frinks Stemple was born in McKlanto, Germany, Nov. 18, 1836, and was united in marriage to Gerhart [Gerhardt] Stemple in 1864. She lived in Ericklants, Germany, the first three years of her wedded life. They came to America in 1864, first to New York, than Ohio, next to Chicago and in 1876 they located on a farm southeast of Stanhope. In 1890 they moved to Stanhope, where she passed away at the home of her daughter, Lena Morris, Thursday, June 10, at the ripe old age of 89 years, 6 months and 22 days. Her husband died July 5, 1913.

Since then she had made her home with her daughters, Lena Morris, of Stanhope, and Mary Parker, of Williams. This union was blessed with six children, of which three were at the funeral, Mary Gertrude Parker, of Williams; Henry Stemple, of DeSmet, S.D., and Lena Morris, of Stanhope. Three children have preceded her in the Great Beyond. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren to mourn her loss. She was a member of the M.E. church in Ohio some 54 years ago. The deceased was one of the early settlers of this vicinity. She was a faithful church attendant. Though she never learned the English language, yet she made it a practice to attend church on Sunday.

The funeral services were held Saturday at the M.E. church at Stanhope at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G.H. Dick. She was laid to rest in the Lawn Hill cemetery. Music was furnished by E.G. Fardal, John Iverson, Mrs. Clarence Wilson, Mrs. Wm. Johnson and Mrs. Allen Jackson at the piano. Pall bearers were Wm. Kepler, Andy Snyder, Henry Stemple (son), David Morris (son-in-law), and Lewis Grant (grandson).
