Gerhardt Stemple was born November 11th, 1836 in Riesch (Race) Germany, and died at his home in Stanhope, Iowa, July 5th, 1913 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 24 days.

In 1861 he was united in marriage to Maria Frinkes [her obituary says Frinks] after which they spent the first three years of their wedded life in Eriklants, Germany. In 1864 they arrived in New York City, where he was employed as coppersmith and brass worker. After several years there they removed to Strykers, Ohio, from which place they moved to Chicago. In 1876 they located on a farm southwest of Stanhope and was engaged in hardware business in Stanhope for 30 years. Six children were born to this union. Three boys and three girls, two having gone before. John Stemple, of Boone, Mrs. Mary Parker of Williams, Henry Stemple of De Smet, S. Dak., and Mrs. L.E. Morris of Stanhope. During the long months of suffering he was always patient. He was loved and esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his death his beloved wife, four children and other relatives.
